I looked at 5ers there with a friend. There were so many new units that had parts missing, we came to the conclusion the repair dept was borrowing from new units to fix units that had been sold. I don't know if it's true but that was the only explanation we could come up with.
Well, I found a 5er with a layout I like and it has room to add an additional "wardrobe" in the bedroom that could conceal a gun safe.
I'd have to take it to a local shop that specializes in RV woodwork to build the wardrobe. Who knows what that would cost, probably $500-$1500.
I did find a...
I like the larger shower (I'm tall and room for long arms/elbows/bending over is nice) but the minimeg type showers I've seen are "large enough" and you can never have too much storage space.
I would choose the minimeg over the larger shower.
A pry bar will open an air line travel case in short order and I have a set of bolt cutters that will go through a heck of a thick cable or lock in about 2 seconds.
I had to cut off a very heavy lock once and it was almost like cutting through butter with those big bolt cutters. It would take...
Bistro? Ugh... marketing run amok.
I like outside kitchens but they steal interior space which I like more. It sounds like a good layout for tailgating.
A lot of these are likes rather than must haves but they would be nice to have... for me anyway.
Your countertops are my least favorite color/style from the models I'm looking at. They remind me of a friend's garage floor where he put sealant down and tossed little colored dots on it for...
Since I'm thinking about full timing this is an important issue for me.
When I first started looking I didn't even think about it but now I want a 5er that has a place I can bolt down a gun safe (long guns). Nothing huge but a solid one with fire protection would be nice. Sadly, the only...
10 years? Wow, and I thought I was dragging my feet after a couple years.
The Key Largo is in the running for me too so I can't really fault you on your choice.
Congrats on the new purchase!
@drphelps,
I'm another prospective owner and I totally understand where you are coming from.
They don't quite offer exactly what you want.
I want a Grand Canyon with an island like the Key Largo... and the bigger shower of the Key Largo wouldn't hurt.
The only advantage I see to a split bathroom is that they make the bedroom feel bigger.
But with the larger shower that is gone and you can't have the large wardrobe on the bedroom slide so you loose twice.
Something like the 3580RL bathroom area would be better but with the large shower and...
I like the FL Montana and Everest model that preceded it. The big drawback I saw was that the Montana hid the slide mechanism under the couches so you don't have chairs in the living room. The Everest didn't have a 2nd slide in the front and felt a little small in the living area. Wildcat...
Only a few posts and I'm starting to think about some things I hadn't considered.
I'm single at the moment so I wasn't worried about sharing the space all the time.
However, I might be roped into supplying "the camper" for hunting season or other activities... so the bathroom/bedroom setup will...
Ok, I'm looking for my first fifth wheel.
I plan to full time in it for a couple years while the housing market is in turmoil and to get some return on my investment instead of just throwing away money on rent.
Great, welcome the world of RVs you say. One annoying little detail though... what...
It wasn't a demand, it was a suggestion. Calling it a demand was an exaggeration. And no they wouldn't have to test every model as long as manufacturers tested similar models (# of slides, length, etc...) so there was some sort of basis for comparison. BTW, I already suggested testing with...
And if you read my post you'll see manufactures take the supposed R values of the parts and add them together for the total which will probably be different than if they measured the actual R value.
You have to remember, things like aluminum trusses or aluminum framing transmits heat through...
The zero degree tested rating is done in a test chamber. I'm just suggesting that they give us some sort of indication of how much propane is used during those tests. And the area is Prospective Owner Questions, it doesn't specify who I'm asking questions of. I'm sure someone at Heartland...
Well, to be fair, I started the step in the shower test when I was looking at less expensive models.
I just started to consider Landmark as an option and haven't had a chance to look in person yet.
I just don't see looking any further if I can't stand in the shower so doing that is a given.
Forums need a few facebook featues such as... <like> Yetti option </like>
(I kept real html tags out of it because I wasn't sure what it would break)
Heartland... a large shower would be nice but ceiling height is my issue.
I'm about 6'4" and it would be nice to shower standing up.
Some...
Ok, I see other people are also trying to compare between different brands and have most of the same concerns. However, one of my main concerns is insulation since I will be staying in the RV for extended periods, and comparing brands/models in this regard is difficult at best.
Most...
Interesting thread. I planned on insulating the storage compartment on any 5er I buy and that looks like a good way to do it. I also considered some foam as well.
As far as your thermostat mod, I was thinking about adding a 2nd thermostat just for the "basement".
The 2nd thermostat would...
My first post, you have been warned.
I'm looking for a fulltime (or close to it) 5er and find Cheapheat interesting but it seems all the supporters are new posters which makes me suspicious.
A few points here.
1. 100% efficient
Sorry, but I don't think any system will be 100% efficient...
