Escort to DMV needed for a "Non Commercial License" (Class A)

Al; You're welcome...and I loved the hamburger. Hope you guys have fun in the desert this weekend. I just wish more people in this state realized the importance of getting licensed properly. Now...pat yourself on the back for a job well-done. Steven

Escort to DMV needed for a "Non Commercial License" (Class A)

DesertThumper; I'm open on Thursday, the 3rd. I'm in Bakersfield, and can meet you in Valencia or Lancaster. I only ask for some help with the fuel bill. Steven

    Labeling Auxiliary Slides Switch

My 2008 Bighorn already had these labeled. I don't know if it was done at the factory, or the dealer did it. Probably the latter, for the benefit of the "lot Boys" to do the prep work and not get too confused....

Slideout issue - stops part way, wait, then finish?

To my way of thinking, if one breaker trips, and the second one is there, there would not be current to operate, since the circuit is open with the tripped breaker. With this thought, having the second breaker there is not the solution. I fixed the problem with the single larger breaker, and...

Slideout issue - stops part way, wait, then finish?

This is the same thing mine was doing. Did research here, and found it to be the weak breaker. I ordered one off Ebay, and changed it out myself. I got the 80 Amp unit with a manual reset, and have not had to reset it as yet, so it fixed the problem. Total job was very easy and fast. I have...

    Sant Barbara, California

I'm at the Thousand Trails campground, Rancho Oso, which is in the mountains East of the city, and close to Solvang. I usually see at least a Bighorn, and sometimes even a Landmark trailer here. Not this time though. Been here for a week now, and not a sighting in the whole time. No...

    I love our bighorn

We are headed out tomorrow for our annual week-long "trailering" in the mountains near Santa Barbara. First trip of the year, so far everything looks good from the winter storage. We are members of Thousand Trails (yeah, I know) and use their preserves as often as we can. If we camp at least...

    Grand Canyon recommendations?

I stayed there in 2010, on the way home from Yellowstone. We stayed at the KOA in Williams, right off the 40. I drove by the other KOA, on the way out to the park. There was nothing out there for shade, and it looked too new for the trees. I highly recommend the Williams KOA, a very nice...

    Safety Inspections... Fellow Texans

People here are correct....If you are PROPERLY licensed to operate the vehicle you are doing so in, in your state, then you are legal in California. The differences are minor, but there are laws here you still have to follow, like the helmet law for motorcycles. If towing, the speed limit is...

    Defective lighting fixture?

I can't answer the first part, but the screws come loose all the time on my BH. I just get the screw gun out and reattach them the best I can. Doesn't help much, but you now know you are not alone in this....

    "Here's Your Sign"

I have a sign that I had made at our local craft faire. I'm a hunter, so I got the deer on one side, and my wife loves to scrap-book, so they put a photo album on the other side. Seems appropriate, and it looks great. I also hang it from the pin box, to show everyone that walks by. Sorry, no...

    NADA values too high!

I am thinking of doing just that, only in Arizona. I had to wait until I retired from Law Enforcement, as my boss doesn't like it when we violate the laws of the state we reside in....

    NADA values too high!

I can only WISH to pay those fees in California....My Bighorn and truck are both newer, and as such it costs a lot each year. Then every time the budget takes a hit for the little pet projects and people standing at the mail box every month on the 1st, they raise these fees, again, to help. I...

    slides stop pulling in

Update to my earlier post; The battery cable I used was only 4 ga., and I had it here at the house. I didn't buy it for the size to use it here. I agree, a 6 ga. wire would be just fine. I'm thrifty enough to use things that I already have instead of buying more. Steven

    slides stop pulling in

Ninerman; Look at the pics on this thread, and go from there. The small breakers that come on the trailer are covered with red rubber cases. Follow the wire from the slide electrical switch, to the breakers. Disconnect that wire at the breaker, and connect it to the new breaker, on the AUX...

Bedroom slide destroyed my basement storage door

Well said, TeJay. I couldn't agree with you more. It's sometimes hard to imagine why all of us should pay for one person's mistake, but we do, every day. Now, my disclaimer....If the item or product was changed in some fashion, and that change caused or led to the failure, then someone should...

Bedroom slide destroyed my basement storage door

I too feel for those that have made critical errors, we all have. But to hold a manufacturer responsible for those errors are the same reasons that our country is in the shape it's in right now. WE, all of us, need to stop trying to play the blame game and step up....like the OP did. Cry a...

    What a great forum!

I couldn't agree more. I worked on the rig this weekend, the past two day, doing the things that needed doing and have been put off. I have a basic knowledge of tools and stuff, but there were several items that I accomplished that I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing, until I learned...

    Front storage shelving?

Thanks for these great ideas. I got tired of just stacking up items on the floor of the front storage area. I don't have a generator, but have the second battery in there. I had some particle board shelving in the garage that is 16 inches wide. I cut the sheets down to fit in the...

    exterior light bulb replacement

My light bulb stopped working in the outside light, behind the pin box, in the front of my BH 3670. I'm sure they are all the same, but before I break something, can anyone tell me how to pop the lense out and replace the light bulb? I've never done it yet, so I'm gonna learn as I do it...

    slides stop pulling in

Update; I ordered an 80 Amp breaker, but got the manual reset on. IO got it off of Ebay for $20.00 delivered. Installed it today, took longer to trace the wires than to install new one. Before I installed the new breaker, it took 3 tries to get the big door side slide out. Now, it goes in...

    slides stop pulling in

Ok, that may have been my fault in the way I explained it to him. I ordered a new breaker last night, and will install it when I get it. I ordered the 80 amp unit so I can just do a simple replacement. I saw the lippert posting that recommend this. The only question is, if the wire feeds are...

    slides stop pulling in

TXBobcat; I am having these same problems. I spoke to a friend who's an electrician...he laughed at me when I told him that the fix would be a second 50 amp unit in parellel, as that would not solve the issue with the first unit tripping, thereby shutting the power off still. I plan to put...

    California dealers

Liz; Welcome to the RV experience, starting with the search, and the purchase. I'm up in Bakersfield, so I can't help you down there, wish I could. I do suggest looking on-line at dealer's inventory for what you like before making those drives. If you don't know what it is you are looking...

California Non Comm. Class A License - Catch 22

    New Heartland Bighorn owner...

I already looked into the second A/C unit, and will be getting one before summer this year. Last summer was nearly unbearable at some of our trailer-outs (you call them camp-outs). And thanks for the kind thoughts. Won't be at the rally this time, we are gonna be in Santa Barbara for Easter...

wdk450; Where are you right now? I'm in Bakersfield, and the office here on F street does these. If you are coming through here on your way home, and can make the appointment to match, I'll get with you and get this thing done. If this is not going to work, we can work out a date/time that...

California Non Comm. Class A License - Catch 22

California Non Comm. Class A License - Catch 22

Don't forget, even with a full class A license in Ca., there is still a limit on the total length of the combo. If the guy was pulling a large 5er, and a car behind, I would bet he was well over the length limit. I don't know what the limit is off the top of my head, but it's certainly there.

    Plastic vent covers

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here knows how to replace the plastic cover on the vent in the bathroom? California Non Comm. Class A License - Catch 22

I also heard a story from a guy who pulled onto Oceano Dunes, and paid his fees. As soon as he did, they directed him over to a side pullout and used portable scales on his rig. Cost him $1500.00 for being overweight (toyhauler and lots of toys), and he was also cited for driving out of class...

California Non Comm. Class A License - Catch 22

Welcome. I'm new here as well. So far, it's been a wealth of knowledge. I bought a Bighorn 3670RL new in 2008, and have not looked back. I absolutely love it. There have been issues, of course, but nothing that has not been able to be sorted out, so far...You will enjoy it greatly, and just...

California Non Comm. Class A License - Catch 22

To all; I did go thru this same issue. When I took the written test and passed, I was given a permit to operate. I was told by the DMV that that meant that I could drive to go camping, practice, etc for the practical exam portion. When I questioned as to whether or not I could go to the...

    noisy ceiling fan

Hello there everyone. I had a similar issue with my fan, and took it to our local dealership to repair, with a punch list. The trailer was new at the time. They told me it was fixed, and I went on my way. The next time I used the trailer, the fan fell out of the ceiling box, and was hanging...
