    time to say Good-by.

Linda and I have had two heartlands, but our last (2013 Bighorn 3010) was our favorite. Other than that we have had 3 other rigs, starting out with a Travel Supreme, back in 1996 when they would customize a rig for you. We used 5th wheels to travel our sales territory since 1996, covering 10...

    Remote for slide out

Just my opinion but with a remote you are tempted to just that….be remote. In our 25 years of travel I always had my hand on the switch inside while Linda was watching and listening on the outside. I have heard too many stories of folks not paying close attention back when remotes were first...

    Entrance dome light

Don’t know your model, but my switch was acceptable behind the basement wall and under my stairs. About 2 - 3 inches and maybe 1/2 inch thick. With plastic coating wrapper. I seem to remember it had three wires hooked to it. In reality it’s just a small relay activated by the magnetic door...

Check that the metal holder of D seal is caulked. If not water can run behind it into rig.

2016 big horn 3160 - gray water plumbing fracture crack options

I like SLO’s idea for complete replacement. Cut it out, replace with new components and if it’s too tight to glue it use rubber boots to join the parts together. Boots are a little more expensive but save a ton of time on your knees or back wrestling with the fix.

    Toilet Replacement

I would suggest that when you swap out the toilet, put a shut off valve in the line. The 310 is a great toilet, but if you need to take it out for repair or full cleaning the shut off valve makes it easier.

    Crack above slide out

Get in touch with Heartland. I don’t have your model but as a gesture of good faith they fixed my 2013 in 2015 after we were out of warranty. They tried something simple first and it cracked again and they tore it apart and fixed it and then never a problem again.

    Septic smell help!!

I’d start by removing the Studor valves and capping the pipe. You can initially do this with plastic wrap. If the smell goes away you have found that one of them went bad. If you wait long enough you’ll find out you don’t need them. I capped mine off 8 years ago and have not had any problems...

    Dryer Quit

It occurred to me, while we were waiting to hear from you that maybe you have a separate washer and dryer. All of my comments were based on the 2100(?) model that is a combo unit. But the problem I had last year was one of the two heat sensors on my unit. $35 part and not bad after 10 years of...

Help with water leak and subfloor repair

The damage will/should be worse close to the source. All it takes is a drip over time. I’d hook the unit up to city water and the sit back and watch. Then either during a rain storm or with hose spray wet the unit down and watch the water come in that way. Don’t forget to spray under the...

    Dryer Quit

Keith….the lights blink in different sequences…and the sequence is the code. But as I said a little interesting that the lights are not blinking….but that will be enough I believe to get them started to help you. Let us know how this turns out.

    Dryer Quit

Interesting that you don’t report any trouble codes. I have had two problems with our Splendide unit in its 10 year life….called their technical support both times. They are excellent! First one was fixed free under warranty and last year they diagnosed the problem over the phone and sold me...

    Fabric softener dispenser not functioning

Have you pulled out the dispenser drawer? From my memory the softener has to go through a tube. It gets all gunned up. You have to really tug on the drawer but it will come out.

    Anti-Siphon valve going bad?

I think I learned about the ASV with my first RV in 1996 when it went bad and leaked. I replaced it with a check valve. 4 rigs later it’s one of the first mods I make. Never had a leak again. Replace it with a check valve!

    Have Unusual Roof Leak

I notice in one picture you have cracked fiberglass in your outside wall by slide. Not that this would be cause but it does mean things have shifted. I found a leak entry point behind a D seal metal holding piece. I’d recommend simply removing all your caulk and D seals and inspect...

Dometic AC Documentation / Service 2016 Bighorn 3010RE

I have a 2013 3010. I discovered that my vents did not seem to be sealed at their ends. When I changed out to LED bulbs every time I dropped a light out cold air would hit me in the face. took out the outlet at all four ends and closed off the duct after it with that silver heat/ac tape. Flow...

2018 Heartland Bighorn crack in body

We had same problem and it is probably structural. W e had our rig at factory to repair frame flex in front by pin and they tried “cosmetic” fix on our crack by slide. Left and one day later crack was back. Returned at end of that trip and they took side apart to find cage was cracked. I’d call...

    Location of anti-siphon check valves?

Sometimes it is easier to spot the lines from the basement as they go up into the wall. At least on mine there were 4 pex lines going up the hole. I determined one was hot and one was cold by running the shower. Then verified the other two were for the anti siphone lines by running water...

    Tow Vehicle

I have not seen pin weight mentioned….maybe I missed it. I believe most recent trucks will pull about anything but the mistake I made was not paying attention to the pin weight. Of course I always went with single rear wheels on all trucks. Had some differential problems on two trucks, then...

    Want a bigger TV

I am stationary so I made the switch up to a 50” and put the main tv in the bedroom. Just wondering how far down the tv would go I notched out the opening and it went down 2/3 of the way. mthoughtfrom what I saw is you should be ok with the following ideas: 1. Cut out the opening such that...

    Thermostat on exterior wall??

I am sure there is extra wire behind the thermostat.....you might be able to put some insulation between it and the wall.....even some side shields too another thought would be to move it someplace else. The wires go up to the a/c and possible you can reroute them some place else from up there...

Advice to set up in permanent site

Mark, My best advice, although I am not 100% sure of your rig and deck situation, is to remove the decorative part of the slide skirt. You will probably know that there is a horizontal piece of trim that hides the interface between the actual slide room and this piece of metal that simply...

    Oxidation - exterior Restoration

My 2013 was going dull too and “wax” would no longer polish it up. I got some 80 grit liquid polishing compound and a buffer and did 1/4 of it every day then waxed it right after and it now shines again. Had to hit a few spots twice.

    Purple Mattress Issues?

We purchased a foam mattress for our 2013 and have never had a problem with the weight. Well....other than trying to move it around since it was a king and filled the space. I bought some sticky tiles that were glossy and laid them down on the wood and it made the mattress easier rot slide...

    New Carpet

I replaced my own 2 years ago with a really high quality remnant and new better pad. Took like 3 hours a day for a week while Linda was gone. if you are careful when you cut/pull the old out you have an exact template for cutting the new. I worked out a deal with the supplier that they would...

    Winegard SWM3 problems

I would have your installer come back out as it seems he did not complete the job. Before he left they should have made sure everything worked. I have found Directv’s technical support very good once you can get to them. it might just be that your receiver is not compatible with swm. You...

I removed all but the section of wall that has plug, etc. in it immediately to the left of the basement door on the doorside. But I moved it back since I had better organized what was behind it. I screwed 2 by 2’s on the floor and ceiling to form the new wall since I had moved stuff back the...

Winterizing ice maker on our new Samsung RF18

Dan, I had read the guide but without the frig in place yet I had some difficulty understanding it. For one thing the picture looks like it is an ice maker from a side by side unit and mine has the ice maker in the lower freezer drawer. Not sure if there is a "door that can be popped off" or...

    Not cooling very well.

I know you said the ductwork was sealed....but in my 3010RE anytime I removed a ceiling light fixture cold air came out. so I went just past the last outlet in the two runs and constructed my own barrier. This increased the airflow in my rig significantly and cut down the air coming out of a...
