    disappointed in heartland trailer

Our one-month-old 2011 3585RL had damage that our dealer could not repair. Heartland wanted the trailer sent back to the factory in Indiana fix it. We live full time in our rig. I asked Heartland to pay for my hotel, they told me they don't do that. We spent 2 months in a hotel waiting for our...

    Life after Heartland

Since this is a Heartland forum, I don't feel right mentioning the brand of my SOB. But I think most Bighorn & Landmark owners know the competitors. I guess I can mention the ones I considered: Brookstone, Carriage, Cardinal, Crossroads, DRV, Excel, Newmar, Nu-Wa, Pinnicle, Redwood. I might be...

    Life after Heartland

After our 2011 Bighorn 3585 was declared a total loss in April we began shopping for a replacement. Prior to buying the 2011 Bighorn, we had a 2008 Bighorn 3670RL that we purchased new in 2007. So until recently, we have been living year round, full-time in a Heartland. During that time, we...

    Bighorn - flood

Re: ATF: Bighorn - flood We loved our first Bighorn 3670RL purchased new in August of 2007. We lived in it full time with only minor & normal issues and overall we were very pleased. So much so that we didn't hesitate to get our new trailer from Heartland, too. This time we had big problems...

    Bighorn - flood

Re: ATF: Bighorn - flood Our 2011 3585RL also leaked, not on our maiden voyage, but close. We had it about a month before it went bad. If you haven't already, you can check it out here...

Catastrophic Failure in our brand new Heartland, check yours to be safe

The picture shows two of the several fittings that the dealer replaced after additional leaks were found. These were smaller leaks discovered after the major leak was repaired. I took the picture because I thought it looked like two different diameter hoses. You can spin the hose on one of the...

Catastrophic Failure in our brand new Heartland, check yours to be safe

To be fair, it may or may not be a workmanship issue alone. Perhaps it was caused by defective or wrong (size) parts. Take a look at the picture I posted earlier in this tread. Maybe it was a substandard roll of hose made from materials not up to spec causing it to be too soft or to stretch. Or...

Catastrophic Failure in our brand new Heartland, check yours to be safe

The water ran for hours before we discovered it and the wooden floor was soaked. Moisture readings of the wood beneath the kitchen floor showed 100% saturation & replacement was recommended. We are full timers. We had to move all of our belongings into storage & we are currently in a hotel. For...

Catastrophic Failure in our brand new Heartland, check yours to be safe

I'm using the same brass regulator we used on our previous Bighorn, parked at the same RV park & at the same site. Also, the second line popped off at the dealer on well water pressure.

Catastrophic Failure in our brand new Heartland, check yours to be safe

As I understand it, the hose came off a brass fitting on the water heater for the original failure. I did not check all the markings on all the hoses. Mostly because I did not suspect a variation in hose diameter until days later. The piece I have has a black number that includes a "05" (zero...

Catastrophic Failure in our brand new Heartland, check yours to be safe

Both these pieces of hose came off the damaged trailer. One measures about 5/8" and the other about 1/2". I think they intend to only use one size. Perhaps they got a roll of the wrong size or maybe it was defective or stretched. As for testing, this trailer must have passed inspection before...

Catastrophic Failure in our brand new Heartland, check yours to be safe

I am reporting this to hopefully save someone from the heartache we are suffering. We ordered a new 2011 Bighorn 3585RL in January. It was built in February. We took delivery March 1st. On the morning of April 7th I got up like I do every morning & entered the bathroom. I heard water running...

    Landmark vs Carri-lite

We've looked at Carriage 5ers several times. I like them. I think they build their own frames; super strong like a bus chassis. That's probably what makes them heavy, too. I think floor plan & value-wise Heartland beats them hands down though.

Brand New Bighorn has Furnace Issues? Reset Fixes it, but why?

We took delivery of our brand new 2011 3585RL earlier this month. The furnace worked fine. Then a week ago it wouldn't come on. I went outside, removed 4 screws, then the cover, toggled the switch from on to off & then back on & it fired immediately. This morning I woke up and it's 53...

    Tow vehicles

You do not, I repeat do not NEED a dually to pull a 3670. I pulled a 3670RL for 3 1/2 years with a single rear wheel 3500 and was within the truck manufacturer's maximum weights for pin weight (weight in the bed), rear axle, max towing weight, and GCVW, etc. Would a dually be more stable? Sure...

    Need help with truck tires

If you are towing a heavy 5th wheel trailer with a single rear wheel truck on 17" wheels, I recommend the Nitto Dura Grapplers. The 285s fit nicely and are rated for 3750 lbs per tire at 80 psi while the Michelins and many other brands are only rated for 3195 lbs. Like some of you, I would...

Re: 2012 Big Horn 3585 Our Dodge Ram 3500 single rear wheel truck handles the 3585RL with no problems so far, though I haven't towed it that far yet. I don't anticipate any problems as the new coach is only a few hundred pounds heavier than our previous trailer, a 3670RL. I think the pin...

Re: 2012 Big Horn 3585 I agree. I think the only real difference will be at trade in. Though a late 2011 & early 2012 may be exactly the same, when I go to trade it in 3 years or 4 years from now, they're going to look up the book value. I bet the values of the two will be thousands apart. Of...

    2011 BigHorn 3585 RL

We're getting settled into the 3585 and things are working out great. Mary loves the open floor plan and I'm loving the big TV. Which Air Compressor???

I would not buy a compressor that you don't KNOW will do the 110psi. I've tried some that CLAIMED they would (their max pressure was stated to be above the 110psi), but after a half hour the tires were still not up to pressure. I researched what it would take to put on-board air on my truck...

    Which Air Compressor???

I have a Power Tank (www.powertank.com). It's like a little scuba tank of compressed gas (usually CO2, but I think they have nitrogen options, too) to top off tires, run air tools, etc. It handles the 110psi tire with no problem and is amazingly fast, too. You can get it refilled at any...

My Obserations after a week in our new 3585, or 2007 vs 2011 Bighorn - Sort of a Review

I don't know if I would even recommend the one I have since I think there may be better ones (with a bit more reach) available. Since they offered to include a swivel mount & installation in the deal, I went with the one they chose, and it's okay, but I would not be surprised if you can do...

We bought our 1st 5th wheel at an RV show in CA, the 2nd off a dealer lot in MD and ordered our current one from a dealer in KS. Buying from inventory is good because "what you see is what you get". If you can wait, I still think ordering is the way to go, but with several mid year factory...

Thanks, I'll check out that thread you mentioned. The central vacuum systems on the '08 3670 & the '11 3585 are pretty much the same. We were happy with it. Many things we were happy with on the old trailer didn't change on the new coach including the furnace, water heater, bathroom faucet...

I didn't change the switches in the old trailer. It looks like it'll be easier to relocate the ones on the 3585 than on the 3670. I'm thinking of putting them on the left hand side of the closet above the thermostat & fantastic fan control.

    Ready to buy BH Ti32

Before we bought our first Bighorn in 2007 we went to many RV shows & looked at most of the 5ers out there & narrowed the field down to these two - the Glendale Titanium or a Heartland Bighorn. The Bighorn won on value, but we liked much about the Titanium. I know this is the opposite of your...

New 16" Alloy Wheels used by Heartland

I don't think this was really an intentional change by Heartland, but rather a supply chain issue. The wheels they've been using for years are not available or are on back order. Extang Solid Fold?

I have the Extang Solid Fold on a long bed truck. I've towed with it open with no real problems, but I have to say I would not buy it again.
