Power Stroke 6.0 Antifreeze Change

Anyone that has a 6.0 should change the anti freeze (GOLD) every 50K to avoid the break down products from clogging the oil and EGR coolers. The side stream filter recommended by Diesel Tech is also a great add on.

Good advice, especially if you do not flush completely and refill with 50/50 Premium Gold Ford coolant and distilled water. Using distilled water allows for longer intervals between flushes. The Xerex GO 5 coolant is also approved for usage. I pay $12.50 a gallon though for the Ford stuff. The Zerex is a buck cheaper

Good post....only use Ford Gold even if the others say they are approved. Using other brands can cause 'gelling' of the coolent heat exchanger leading to overheating and engine failure. Also the coolent to oil exchanger gasket can fail allowing the oil and coolent to mix together leading to big problems. Never use coolent additives like "WaterWetter" as they can cause 'gelling also' (I learned the hard way).

Good follow up on the post regarding the flushing. It is a bit awkward as you have to pull the starter to get to one of the drain plugs. Almost every 6.0 that don't flush and change the antifreeze will change the coolers at around 100K give or take a few miles. Makes the $140 or so the garage charges to do a complete flush and anti freeze exchange not sound so bad.

The only approved substitute for the Ford Premium Gold Coolant is the Zerex GO 5 coolant mixed 50/50 with distilled water. You are correct, all the others are an invitation for trouble.
