Hi 21Cindguer21,

Welcome to the Heartland Owners Forum.

To use the Black Tank Flush, you'll want to:

  1. connect a water hose (not your regular water hose) to the black tank flush fitting.
  2. Connect your sewer hose to the trailer's sewer outlet and to the sewer system.
  3. Open the black tank dump valve and turn on the water that's connected to the Black Tank Flush.

The contents of the Black Tank should empty into the sewer and a constant stream of water from the Black Tank Flush should continue as long as the water spigot is turned on.

After a few minutes, close the black tank dump valve and turn off the water.

Then you'll want to add a few gallons of water to the black tank, either through the black tank flush (maybe 60 seconds of water running), or through flushing the toilet (with your regular water hose hooked up to the city water connection).

A clear adapter on the end of the sewer outlet is very helpful so you can see what's coming out.

For additional tips and techniques, refer to our owner-written Water Systems Guide in this folder.

Foul smells can also originate from other sources. For example, if you have a kitchen island, there's probably a Studor Air Admittance Valve under the sink to vent the drain line. If the valve fails, odor from the tank will stink up the living area.

Dead critters can also be a source of bad smells.

Also don't disregard a possible propane leak.
A couple years ago I noticed a bad odor. A knob on the stove was slightly adjust and we had a slight gas leak.
It did not smell like LP normally smells nor did the LP detector activate.
I gotta remember to not lean against the stove.

Peace
Dave
