The engine and rear axle in your vehicles is a big factor. A 1500 series with a 5.3L, 2 WD, and 3:73 axle can pull up to 8200 lbs. A 4WD, same axle and engine drops to 7900 lbs. And you also have to factor in how much stuff you've got in the trailer and the TV.

The Chevy Silverado website is poor on information, but the GMC Sierra site has a lot of detail. The vehicles are essentially the same.

Our previous TT weighed about 5100 lbs. dry and we pulled it with an '02 Avalanche 4WD 1500. Gas mileage sucked.

We had an 01 Yukon with the 5.3, not the XL. Tow package was in it too. We pulled a 27ft. Dutchman that weighed in at 7700# of which 1000# was tongue weight. It was a bit heavy for the shorter wheelbased Yukon and we were probably a bit over GVWR. Depending on the tonguw weight you want to pull, you should just start looking at trailers and find one you really like thats within the specs of the tow vehicles. You have to keep stopping in mind along with the safety of the family.
