ATF: MPG - Need new fenders and running lights

Well, I put on expensive D range tires and after 5000 miles one of them blew its treads at 65mph in Colorado and took out the fender on my MPG181. Hint, DON'T BUY CHINESE TIRES! So, I have to replace a fender, and since (I believe) Heartland no longer stocks the custom tear drop fenders, I'll...

    Lost another axle :-(

First axle was bad from the factory and replaced under warranty. The new axle solved the sway problems. But the other day, driving back from New Brunswick Canada I noticed sway again. The weather was bad and winds were high so I thought it was that, but at the next fuel stop I took a look...

ATF: MPG - Toilet water line repair

Hi Guys, Must have left some water in the line over the winter. I have a small leak just where the water line enter the Thetford toilet in my MPG 181. It seems to be where the right angle connector meets the body of the toilet. I tried to remove the toilet, removed the 2 floor bolts, but it...

How many MPG's are out there?

Anyone have any idea how many were made? Been on the road for 3 weeks and have seen 4 MPG's in passing and 2 R-Pods.

    Too quiet too long

So here are a couple of shots from our current road trip. Utah and Wyoming. All dry camping, totally self contained.

    First camping trip 2013

Robert Therman State Park campground, near Ithaca NY, Finger Lakes Region. Had a great but chilly weekend. Our daughter drove down from college for a visit. Got into the low 20's every night. Ran the heater just enough to keep the pipes from freezing. We were under 4 sleeping bags, so...

ATF: MPG - tech question - load limits

I had an axle go bad on my 181 after 4 months of use. Lippert replaced it, so all is well (though I have to pay for new tires). But here's my question. I know I didn't overload the MPG. It states on the door the load limit is 892 lbs above dry weight. With a full water load that brings it...

    MPG 181 Mods

I've added 2 windows (one to the door and one at the rear drivers side), an 80 watt flexible solar panel (it's self adhesive, sort of like a 9' bandaid), a 2nd marine battery and replaced all the bulbs with LED's on my 181. The thing ROCKS! (though sometimes it also sways :-( Don't travel with...

    New Axle, final word

Well all is said and done. To recap, on my MPG 181 the insides of the tires were going bald. It's a new 2012 unit with 5000 miles on it. I called Heartland and they said it was the axle and I should bring it to a dealer for warranty replacement. So I brought the rig to Camping World in...

Did it, Installed an additional window in my 181

On the drivers side rear, by the dinette. Cost me $75 for the window and $11 for a 1" rim. Grew a few more gray hairs cutting the hole, but all went well. I was afraid there might be some support structure behind the wall, but there wasn't. After I started cutting it took less than an hour...

removed the microwave. Any ideas for finishing the space

I'l put up some hooks and netting, but wondering what to do about making the raw space a little nicer. It will mostly be pots and pans storage. Lovin the 181!

    Added Solar

We usually dry camp so I added a 2nd battery and a flexible solar panel. So far it's been working great. It charges both batteries from 1/4 to full in 2 days. With decent sun we should be able to camp as long as we want without having to hook up to the jeep or AC to recharge. The panel is 9'...

    First Impressions

Love this little thing. Picked it up in South Dakota and now we're in New Mexico. Back country camped this weekend and successfully managed to sleep 4 and a dog on board (2 adults and 2 college age kids). The secret of the 4th was a self inflating camping pad, 24x74x2.5". The feet went under...

    r-pod vs MPG?

Newbie here. Looking at both. Haven't seen the MPG and not crazy that they don't make them anymore, but I like the larger 15" wheels, diamond plate up front, and front and rear windows. Anyone have experience with both? Thanks, Billy
