    jbeletti's 2017 F450 Platinum Ultimate

Re: Considering 2018 F450 Lariat Ultimate Just a point of reference I always buy Ford trucks on the A-plan line item no trade, no financing, no.... I usually have to call a few dealers but someone will do it if the transaction is a simple in-and-out with no nonsense. I do not have an A-plan...

    Trailer brake question

Terry- Good test. When you feel better try adjusting them up with someone activating the brakes from the truck to verify. I have lost count of the times I found brakes that I could still spin by hand with full application. From your description they sound loose.

    Trailer brake question

Terry- I agree with everything you're saying, solid logic. I would definitely check out the sizes of those brakes. Also look at the magnets on the brakes, Dexter and others make different magnets for different axle weight applications, often identified by magnet wire color. So an upsize in...

    Trailer brake question

All I can say is that this sounds like a bunch of B.S. to me. If you cannot lock up your brakes with the controller all the way up, you either have brakes that are too small for the weight of the trailer, or you have some form of brake or controller problem, end of discussion in my mind. That...

    Oil Change Intervals

On my pre-03-04 trucks it was easy to get long oil life. Something to consider is the amount of EGR these new trucks have. While oil doesn't wear out it does get contaminated and EGR is a huge source. I'll stick with 5k and full synthetic oil, it's too expensive of an engine to save a few bucks.

    F-250 gasoline--- should I switch?

If the gas is doing the job even at 7.7mpg you are not going to save enough money for it ever to pay off. With my 2016 F250 6.7 towing a 30' 5er I get about 10.5-11 depending, but yes towing with a diesel is the hot ticket. Now if you just want one, that is another thing.

Ford Approved Oils for New CK-4 Specs

Thanks for posting that. I was starting to get really cranky since I had emailed Shell and they assured me it was in process the first part of the year. That and I just didn't want to change oil, no reason other than I am a creature of habit.

    Bad wheel service day

Re: Bad tire day. I hear you, that's why I bring my Milwaukee 18V impact everywhere. I don't want to change an 8 lug tire (even if it is properly torqued) with a hand wrench.

    Bad wheel service day

Re: Bad tire day. I have never in had a tire lug come loose over time, just doesn't happen unless they are not property seated when initially torqued, they were not torqued at all, or there is some other issue like corrosion. Torquing several times a day, everyday..... Wow. Case in point, I...

    What's Up With My Tires???

I believe the American public has been educated about the warranty/recall procedures for products made in China.... Proceed to nearest landfill and file your claim, otherwise you are just wasting your time.:D Seriously, the NHTSA should be more proactive in determining unsafe tires vs. letting...

    Trailer brake question

Its up to you guys, but if you are not getting even braking and consistent drum temps try what I posted. You can feel a distinct difference wheel to wheel when the brakes are applied. From that point it is easy to adjust one or more just a click or two tighter to even them out. Remember the...

    Trailer brake question

I don't know what measurements they have written down, but I have not heard of that as a way to adjust the brakes. My process is to jack the trailer up and set the controller at mid range (~6 volts). I have a helper apply the brake hand lever as I need while I go around and manually adjust the...

    Fuel $$$

$2.XX I don't care. I guess you guys don't remember $5+ diesel a few years ago? I've driven 40K miles in the last 14 months to try and take advantage of a great economy and cheap fuel. We are really lucky to be able to do all this traveling at such a cheap cost. Europe never seems to be...

Ford Approved Oils for New CK-4 Specs

Just a point and I don't know what laws you have in Canada; but in the U.S. we have the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. That means that before Ford could deny your powertrain warranty they would have to prove that the oil you used specifically caused the damage. I have a hard time believing for...

    Tires in your TV SRW

20" Toyo AT's. ~40K and looking good. I will probably change at or just before 50K, but I change tires way before the wear marks. I also like the Michelin's, but I prefer to run a more aggressive tread.

DEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid bulk purchase & storage

I've never understood the big deal either, even at retail by the container prices the cost is about equivalent of 3 gals of diesel every 5K miles. Even if you save 50% of retail, I wouldn't take up the room in the garage for that.

    Rodent/Pest Control

I just had a funny experience the other day and then I read your post. I found my labradors digging in the garden, something they never do unless there is an animal around. Well they dig for a few minutes and out run a family of mice. The mice were living in a bed of mint.;)

I wanted to update this thread for a little closure. I just towed from Taos, NM to Hill City, SD and back approx. 1350 miles going over La Veta pass twice just like I did when I started the thread. In my case it was a world of difference, MUCH improved especially in corners and on rougher...

Tow rating of 2000 Ram 2500 with factory tow options

Perhaps you meant to post this kind of "everyone that doesn't have the same brand of truck I do is stupid" over on Dodgetalk or some other echo chamber forum where you'll get a lot of thumbs up? Either that or you're just jealous?

Tow rating of 2000 Ram 2500 with factory tow options

Disk trailer brakes are always good. If you told me I had to tow a heavy trailer with your truck down wolf creek pass in CO, I would rather have trailer with good drum brakes and an exhaust brake vs. disks on the trailer. The other thing you might consider is an air bag setup to level out the...

Tow rating of 2000 Ram 2500 with factory tow options

Welcome Doug- Excellent truck IMO and very well optioned. Bomb proof drivetrain. I would look for a fifth wheel in the 10K lb. dry range for that truck. Anti-spin keeps both rear wheel spinning, so if one rear wheel was in mud for example and spinning the other would still give you...

    Tire Speed Ratings..

You bet that was me, 4 Lo on cruise control. Super friendly safety minded people in Kansas. I can't tell you how many honked on their way past me and gave me a gesture I believe means "Safety is Number 1". I did have quite a bit of traffic behind me most of the day. I don't care I'm retired...

I often drive in 4 lo and in 1st gear to make it easy on my drivetrain (Always with my flashers on). Lost my Vent Cover to Refrigertor

Man I feel your pain. When we picked up our new trailer we drove about 10 miles, got out to check the load and our refrigerator cover was gone. I turned around drove back to the dealer that was closing and took one off a trailer on the lot. I can only imagine what a hassle getting it to match up...

Cell service - Should I stay or should I go?

Hitch touches cap after letting trailer down

There are experts here that can tell you exactly. Looking at mine I would take down the area sheeting behind the hitch and see what I could see or perhaps use an inspection camera, definitely not the nose cone.

Hitch touches cap after letting trailer down

I would suspect a major structural problem at or near the hitch mount. I would not move that trailer until I pulled it apart and inspected it. I am going to guess broken welds.

    Cracked fenders

There is a fender brace underneath the middle of the fender that came loose on me. I imagine that it would have quickly caused the cracking you are experiencing. On mine the brace is held to the body with (2) No. 12 self-tapping screws, so nothing bullet proof. Did you check those?

Firestone cab controlled - - - Updated - - - Leaning is ok, when that weight shifts abruptly (undampened) it is very uncomfortable and possibly dangerous. Guys, I feel like I'm writing a book, the truck is night and day better. If you don't think shocks would help in that towing situation...

    Towing and shocks...

Older trucks had much shorter, usually leaf springs, that were stiff enough to keep the whole load from moving a fraction of an inch. I had an old Dodge dually that would knock your teeth out going over a cigarette filter. Shocks on that must have been a cruel joke by the factory because the...

    Towing and shocks...

Shocks are really hard to diagnose because it happens so subtly, I was really surprised. It's one easy to get to bolt to pull one part way out and see for yourself if it is still good. Also, you might check for any slight cupping on the outside edges of your front tires.

I have Firestone bags with the Airlift compressor and wireless controller. Interestingly the Airlift controller won't allow me to run less than 5 psi, but I would've liked to run 0 when empty like you're planning if I had the right bags. BTW- I LOVE is the Airlift wireless controller. You can...

    Towing and shocks...

I have air bags on my truck because I can't stand not towing level. IMO the Bilsteins are better suited for this than factory because at least with the 5100's for our Fords, the shock is rated at +0 to +2" of lift meaning they have extra throw which seems like the perfect setup for airbags IMO...
