Can You Change Tire Profile Numbers?

Gang:
I am looking for new tires for my Bighorn 3670RL, and have noticed that some of the ST235/85R16 tires have a much higher load rating (around 4400 lbs) versus the supplied ST235/80R16 tires (around 3750 lbs).

Can one of the tire experts on the forum set me straight?

Bill, the 85r 16 is one inch in diameter larger than the 80r 16. If there is enough room between the tires, you are good to go.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just means the tire will be an inch taller. As long as you have plenty of room between tires, you should be fine.

Our first Big Country had 80 series tires (Towmax) that we replaced with Goodyear G614s in an 85 series size and never had any issues.

Also, check the exact tire specifications. For example, our recently replaced LT235/85-16 Sailuns were rated for 3750 lb. at 110 psi and 75 mph. The "regular" trailer service Sailuns (without LT in the size designation) were rated much higher (4400? lb) but at 65 mph.
