Finally completed hand made contacts assembly for the shoreline reel. As posted before, mine burned out. Manufacturer doesn't sell parts nor does anyone else. No one in town would touch the project. $600 brick is now fixed. Went threw a lot of trouble but what the heck, I'm retired , have time. All new heavier parts to carry the load. Original commutator just cleaned with just a small still usable burnt spots . Pics posted. Contacts made from c5100 phosphor bronze, .032" thick. Original was ????, .020 thick.

I wondered how that thing worked. Great post, now I know. So you made your own replacement contacts then?

Yep! All new. I got to exercise my brain and hands again. Retired now for six years from aviation. I wore many hats, from working on the bench, engineering, inspector , project manager. I liked the bench the best!.....responsible for your own work... no headaches.... no "politics".

since your tooled up for the fix, maybe a kit could be made available? Basically cause you said the manufacturer doesn't sell parts.

I would bet there are more people going to need this repair done. I will admit in our climate, we honestly dont use the air very much. We mainly camp in the spring and late fall, when its usually cooler here. The air conditioners being the largest current draw items on board. I guess you wouldnt know your having an issue till it just outright fails.

FWIW, I as well have the power cord reel and so far so good except the reel ends have cut holes into the wrap around/under sheet metal cuz HL didn't make a sealed box for it. Anyways regarding the parts you gathered to modify yours and with what other have said, perhaps you really should look into a way of marketing a "kit/update". I'd be willing to bet you'd have one heck a following/customer base. Just sayin.

I have seen what looks like the same power cord reel, in SOB units a lot lately at local shows. So heartland products arent the only rigs out there with these units installed.
