I have recently starting using a different type of hose washer along with a seal/thread lubricant. The silicone washers seal beautifully and supposedly last a lifetime. A LITTLE bit of the lubricant (safe for water systems and seals) makes connecting the threads easier, lubes seals for filters, and prevents galvanic coupling (corrosion) between dissimilar hose/connection metals, such as brass and zinc.
