Don't know the answer, but the thickness of the ply makes as much difference as how many layers. I do know this...Maxxis tires are the ONLY ST tire with a decent reputation. There is no other ST tire I would use based on the information I have seen on the internet...Don

Below are spec's on Maxxis trailer tire. The header does not aligh well but can still decipher. I have the TL30141000 they are 10 ply and weight load of 3'420. I have only towed about 1000 miles with them but so far I really like the way they perform. Much better than the Tow Max.

Sidewall ...3 Polyester
Tread........3 Polyester, 2 Steel, 2 Nylon
Load Rated 3420 lb 10PR

Most pickup LT tires have 2 ply sidewalls.

I have had them for 30K miles now.
They balanced out well, very true. A great ST tire when not overloaded.

I've used Maxxis motorcycle tires in the past and been very happy. They even have a mud terrain LT tire named Big Horn for anyone wanting the name on their truck too.

We are on our 2nd set of Maxxis on our ElkRidge. We got about 32k and 2 years out of our first set. I caught the tread starting to separate on one, and the others were close to the wear bar, so we replaced them all. Discount tire prorated the bad tire. Feel very confident on these. We maintain 80 psi tire pressure with TPMS and drive 63mph.

They came out standard equipment on our 2005 Holiday Rambler. Never had an ounce of trouble, and bought them to replace the junk that Heartland put on our Elkridge.
