sun reducing shades or other solution

on our maiden voyage we went to Utah and temps were 95+ and realized the day/night shades have no worth to reduce the direct sun and the heat. so what have others done to reduce this direct heat so the air conditioner doesn't run forever? Gary

Ditto, just had it done last week and could tell an immediate difference (and the night shades actually block light!).
