my in-laws run dmax and my folks run dodge diesels for their companies
the cummins continually get better mileage; like shockingly better (we did a trip this winter, pulling 10k loads, so little ones). 3 dmax's and 2 cummins; the cummin's got 12-15 and the dmaxs got 6-8, all measurements at...
2013 Cyclone 3950
under warranty it was in for sewer gas smell while draining tanks and slow drain on grey tanks; dealer flushed out the vent and stated that the problem was fixed (we didn't use it again since the fix)
last weekend we used the rig again and I noticed a couple things
it...
problem solved
not sure what fixed it; but after starting the genset and flipping the breakers on the genset back and forth a couple times it magically started working
I have no idea what I did differently; but all is working now
2013 3950; took delivery last year
Brought it out of storage; fired up the genset and for some reason it will not power the coach (worked great last year).
Within the genset (onan 5000) cover there is a pair of 30amp breakers; flipped them both ways, no joy.
If I go with shore power the coach...
spot on regarding the pros & cons
very happy with the mileage / range / capacity / space / comfort when towing; it is a very calm, smooth, quiet experience
depending on your wheel base and overhang manuverability can be tricky
if you head deep off road an hdt can get you in trouble; but with pin...
empty we got 12.7 from AZ to MN
towing the cyclone we've gotten between 9.5 and 10.0; we have about 3000 miles on the cyclone this year; so it has been very consistant
i'm getting better mileage then my inlaws diesel pusher motorhome, better then the gas pickups towing with us and similar to...
in MN you need to fulfill (i think its 4) of a possible 8 items
sink/shore power/separate ac & heat/toilet/lp cooking/fridge and a couple i forgot
you install them; then take some pics and head into the dmv; a small fee later your good to go as a mh
our rear bathroom doesn't have that issue
but... our front bathroom was stinking up the place pretty bad; problem ended up being that the sewer vent was plugged
they unplugged it under warranty and we've been golden ever since
since yours doesn't smell when its full perhaps the sewer vent has...
so... after measuring and remeasuring several times i decided to raise the hitch on the truck
I went this route as i ended up needing 6 inches of height at the hitch and i could only get 3 inches if i dropped the suspension. Additionally if i dropped it the full 3 inches i would be getting very...
for your first post you've zero'd in on a hot button of the rv community :)
you'll see and hear many differing opinions on the towing topic here is a very active thread happening right now on a different forum http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25251954.cfm
my take
figure...
we ordered our 3950 on march 3rd and this last friday the final piece of the puzzle finally fell into place
here is a pic of the final product just after the truck returned from striping
it definately took longer then we anticipated; getting the hdt licensed as a motorhome was a pretty big pain...
Winterized our new 3950 for the first time and noticed that the anode rod in the hot water heater was nothing more then a plastic plug.
Have the water heater manufacturers gone away from the anode rod's?

B&W has a solution that does both (5th and gooseneck) just like post #4 said
Here is a link http://www.turnoverball.com/products/rvhitch
Basically; the Turnoverball stays in the truck (like you have now) and you add into the "Companion" part when you pull a 5th wheel.
I hear what...
some random input
our last 5er was 8 years old when we traded; it had spent every day inside unless it was being used
after we traded we drove through the lot to pickup our new rig; our 5er looked brand new when sitting next to the other similarly aged rigs
i'd strongly consider paying for...
thx for the input danemayer,
i'm definately not considering changing the suspension; rather moving the shackles from the middle bolt hole to the lower bolt hole (on the 2013's there are 3 settings)
the 5er was in for warranty work yesterday so I ran it by the dealer; they said "yup; we've done a...
when attached to our hdt the cyclone sits a bit front low
three options
1) drop the pin box (i believe this would add torque to the 5er and would mess up the pin box cover; so thinking this is a bad option)
2) raise the 5th wheel hitch on the hdt (totally viable option)
3) lower the cyclone via...
i'm not following the couch drawer question....
on our 2013 3950 beneath the sides of the couch on the passenger side there are doors that open which allow for storage beneath the couch; but the rest of the couch is fixed solid to the floor
agreed on the cyclone look
hehehe; thats a sweet trailer
a couple years back I seen a monoco pusher pulling a tandam axle trailer with a jeep grand cherokee on the bottom and a ranger 620 on top
the double decker trailer was done insanely well
the top level folded down to the ground; then the...
we don't have all the valves open at the same time... but if we open the black valve we will get a smell within a couple of minutes... same with the grey valves (either grey 1 or 2) if we open a valve and have it drain for say 10 minutes; we'll get a smell within 5 minutes
we don't leave any of...
thx for the replies; sounds like our 5er has some issue
for context...
we do leave all of the valves shut unless we are dumping
the smell is coming into the 5er while the tanks are being dumped (so smell happening within a short time frame like within a minute)... when not dumping no smell...
2013 3950; used it a few times and this is occuring
1) black tank drains slowly (+10 minutes) if its indicating 3/4
2) black tank indicator isn't accurate (always shows 1/2 or more even when nothing is coming out of the tank); i've used the tank cleaning system (where you attach the garden...
i'm confused,
Am i not supposed to fill the onboard fresh tank at full rate via a normal garden hose? Would it be enough to slow the fill down with a pressure regulator?
and if you have a 3950 don't forget to latch the door between the living and garage area; if you don't you'll have a different set of issues :)
to bad there wasn't a hinge or something you could install to prevent those 'accidental slams'
this weekend it was pretty hot and muggy for our area (ND/MN) low 90's with humidity in the 80's
so first really test of the new rigs ac ability
the cyclone was plugged into shore power and running the ac; after a day with the ac on the unit started sweating water into the living room and it...
ours sits in our own shed with power available
but i don't leave it 'lit' when not in use
unplugged / master switch off / refridgerator doors open
why?
inlaws leave their diesel pusher plugged in all the time; earlier this year a lighting strike took out all their appliances, insurance paid...
Picked up the 3950 about a week ago; below is a pic of us hooked up and ready to roll. Pulling with the hdt is awesome; definately different then with the pickups.
On the downside; having the 5er and truck in town absolutely fill up the driveway; much better to keep em out of town where...
thx bksvo; thats what i assumed as all our previous rigs were that way
can you imagine if i hadn't caught that :)
i'd be at the dumpstation; (valves still open; lets say 60 gallons of nasty waiting behind the outlet cover) it'd be sunday afternoon; all cheerful and packed up ready to head home...
i promise i'll get some pics uploaded :)
we are leaving friday on the maiden shakedown trip and when i get everything hooked up i'll snap some; i would have gotten some on the trip home from the dealer but my 2500 was squated out so bad i really didn't want to save that image :)
it'll be much...
I'm the one that had the first 3950 arrive in the wrong color //heartlandowners.org/showthread.php/30734-scheduled-3950-pickup-monday-not-going-to-happen; well the 2nd one arrived in the correct color and all is well. As an additional plus; the first one has already sold; so everyone is happy...
the volvo has air bags; they are based on height not pressure so it is as 'squishy' as one could exspect; but its still rather stiff
also running a full tow chassis on a 230" wheel base so its as smooth as an hdt could be; but it definately has a different impact profile then say my 2500hd does...
2013 cyclone 3950 awaiting delievery
we will be pulling it with a volvo 610 (semi which has been converted and singled) reese 32k 6-way on the truck
since its a class 8 (semi) the general belief is that you can harm the frame of the 5er due to the stiffness of the semi's suspension; makes sense...
per the current plan the new rig should be ready for pickup at my dealer the first full week of June (wife is very bummed about missing memorial weekend; we do a ~10 rig atv party each year in a different location; pretty hard to load 3 quads into a montana)
our dealer has given us our trade-in...
I just got off the phone with AJ; definately a top notch fellow.
Still a bit bummed about having to wait for the new 3950 to arrive; but I couldn't have asked for anything more from Heartland or my dealer.
thx AJ,
