2011 Sundance XLT 265RK Tire Upgrade

We have been experiencing abnormal tire wear on the rear-passenger side tire on our fifth wheel (under the refrigerator/furnace). We have towed our trailer about 10,000 miles total and have gone through two tires in this position, the second one being a blow-out. Both of these tires showed heavy wear on the outside edge. The other three tires show normal wear. We are wondering if there is more weight on this tire, or if we have a hub or axle problem? Has anyone else with this model experienced abnormal wear on this tire? After the blow-out we are also thinking we need to get the Tow Max tires off the trailer and upgrade them. So, the second question is, has anyone out there upgraded this model Sundance to a 16" tire and if so, what tire size did you find that worked? Our previous fifth-wheel had LT tires on it and we pulled it 35,000 miles with no issue. We are considering putting an LT tire on this fifth wheel, but haven't gotten very far finding a 16" LT tire that will fit?

Hi Mobrownies,

Welcome to the posting side of the Heartland Owners Forum and also to the family.

Most everyone has, or is getting ride of the TowMax tires. Folks are replacing with Sailuns, Goodyears 614 and others. It just depends on what you like and also the pricing area.

If it is the same tire wearing again in the same way, then you probably need to take it to a trailer shop and have the alignment checked. If you have never had the bearings cleaned and packed, now would be a good time to get it done. Lots of your larger trailer shops can do the alignment for you and also the bearings. Most RV dealers and their shops cannot do the alignment.

Let us know what you find and continue to visit the forum. If your not a member, check out the Heartland Owners Club and join us at a rally when you can.

Maxxis makes a very good 16" trailer tire. 8008 is the style.
