Can somebody tell me where the hot water bypass valve is located

Look for the back of the water heater, follow the lines from the heater, and you will find them within a couple of feet, if they are installed.

Do they generally put them behind a panel that is screwed in? Did not want to start breaking things down if it's not necessary.
