Hello All

I seen on a couple of other forums that their might be an update for 2015, I have looked all over the CA DMV site and can not seam to find it

Here is the link I used.
https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/pubs/pubs

I did notice that their are new driver handbooks, maybe they are just confused and the 2011 book is still good.

Trying to get legal in CA is a pain. Any help would be appreciated.

So long as you are towing a fifth wheel between 10,001 and 15,000 lbs, all you need is a Restriction 41. To get this you have to take and pass the standard trucker class 1 written test. Nothing else. Under the DOB on your drivers license the RSTR will have 41. and on the back of your license it will have the Class:C Veh w/GWVR </= No M/C Then it will list the restrictions that I stated above.

I don't think to too many people do this because the DMV had to look it up. I had to point this out to them in the document I down loaded. They didn't have the test and had to copy it out of a binder they had. It took then 45 minuets to find it!

California has a certain set of locations where commercial license exams are done. Here is the link: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/fo/offices/toc_cdl

I amazed that in connection with any commercial license all you have to do is the written test - no physical exam, no driving test. What about the eye exam?

Many of us have higher GVW 5th wheels (My Bighorn came from the factory with a 16,000 lb GVW). I think that it should be a California law, that on the sales document for RV's requiring a specialized drivers licence, the buyer needs to be informed of this requirement in writing and initial that clause. This is something that the salesman will NEVER mention to you when you are buying. Ideally, the entire nation should have uniform laws about RV operating licensing requirements.

Bill should have that license. It was my understanding that the test for 15K and under to 10001K was a 20 question written test only. It would be nice if Ca. got their act together and knew what was going on at all DMV offices or at least have a printed handbook that states the rules.

If the requirement is for a written test only, any DMV should be able to do it. The state of Massachusetts only requires a class D for any size or weight RV.

I found this web page: http://changingears.com/rv-sec-state-rv-license.shtml

I looked up the state of Massachusetts class D. It is the same as California's class C. http://www.massrmv.com/rmv/license/5classd.htm
