Wind popped our awning

Last week we had our awning out when a small squall came through. Didn't expect much wind so I just tilted it down and went inside. Unfortunately we were along a river and within minutes POP! a gust came through and pulled one side of the awning off the supports. I was able to wrestle it back down and get it to retract - however the impact had pulled out the bolts on the cleat holding the support low on the side.

Any suggestions for how to repair this?

On looking at the failure the problem seemed to be the spring snap that adjusts the support. I knew it was not engaging well but once I got it... it would hold. The problem was that it was only holding with force down, once the wind lifted a bit it disengaged and the two parts of the sliding support came apart. Not sure how to repair this... also - worth the warning to others, seems a design defect to me. I'm guessing I'm not the only one with this tiny part prone to fail.
