MAINTENANCE: What Folks Say vs My Observations

Hahaha Tundra2084, we have the exact same routine! Right down to the starting to move out before remembering the side mirrors need to be pulled out. In fact, we have now added that to our checklist. :p

Level up: Do you still chock the tires?

We put the chocks that go in front of and behind the tires while we are unhitching. Then we use the Level-up. And then we put the X-chocks in before we put the slides out. Just make sure to remove the X-chocks before you send the rig back to hitching up height when you are getting ready to leave.

No Reverse on Fan-Tastic Vent...Anyone know how to fix???

Same here. We use the fantastic fan in the main area to pull air in through the windows. And replaced the fan in the bathroom with a Vortex fan that has a reverse function.

    cats, cat litter, heater vents

We also use a natural type of clumping litter. We have a mat in front of the box and it does collect most of it, but some does track a little. We haven't had any issues with it getting into the heating vents though. Just have to vacuum our area rug more frequently.

    Windows 10, anyone?

I follow a blog which is written about a lot of techie stuff, and this one blogger is very excited about Windows 10. He has been doing a series of blog posts about Windows 10, and the link below is just one of his recent posts. From this blog post, you can get to his other posts...

    Yearly Inspection

We used to have a yearly inspection requirement when we lived in NY. One thing we were happy to get rid of when we became fulltimers. Since then we have been residents of first SD and now FL. No inspections in either state. :)

Comments concerning cold weather issues with or without Yeti Package

We have had our Landmark since June 2011. We found it on a lot and fell in love with it, but it didn't have the Yeti package. It did have the dual pane windows though. We decided to go for it, and have not regretted it. The winter of 2012, we spent a few weeks in pretty cold weather, down to...

Help Finding an RV Park in Florida Keys

We stayed at Grassy Key Park in Marathon for a month this past January. We had a good experience there. Nice pool, right on the ocean, a quarter mile from a paved trail that went all the way to the Seven Mile Bridge.

    Back splash

We put up the backsplash in the kitchen in July 2013. It's a very thin small glass tile pattern that came in 12 in square sheets at Home Depot. We did not take the paper off the walls. Just went right over it. We used a product called Simplemat to put the tile up and regular grout. It has...

    Back splash

We added a backsplash in both our kitchen and bathroom areas. I wouldn't call it a repair though but an upgrade as it is much better than what we started with.

EVENT: Heartland Regional Rally: NY, Copake - 7/30/2015 to 8/2/2015

Sorry to say that Harry and I won't be able to make this rally after all. We will be in Ohio for some quality time with the grandkids. I have cancelled our reservation with the campground. Have a great time all! :)

    Shower overhead light replacement

Interesting. Must be. We have three, the two you mentioned and the third to the shower light. Too bad, we were hoping you knew the answer! 😊 Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk

    Medical Needs

We also return to our home area for normal doctor's and dentists appointments. Harry had an issue a couple years ago which we went to the ER for, and there was no problem as far as taking our insurance etc. I have routine medications to take and get them through the mail order pharmacy. They are...

Not getting exactly what Heartland offered in our new Landmark

I have never found the memory foam topper to be more warm than another kind of mattress (and I'm the one in our family that needs cool temps for sleeping).

We added a 4 inch Serta Memory Foam topper to ours, and it is SO comfy.

Self leveling not responding - need help

Harry says he would look for a loose wire at all the connections for the level-up system...the wiring in the front compartment for the level-up. Or it could possibly be the control board.

    Whats causing this ammonia smell.....

I would get an rv tech to look at it, but the cooling unit will probably have to be replaced. There is a 2 year manufacturers warranty on it also.

    Whats causing this ammonia smell.....

We had our cooling unit go on our fridge a couple years ago. When Harry took the cover off on the outside where the vent is there was a yellow discharge of chromate that was visible. Our fridge was still working at that point but when Harry called our rv repair shop they advised him to shut it...

    Big Rigs and RV Parks

We haven't had issues finding sites/rv parks that we will fit in, but we do take a good look at them before we go there. We have learned that putting "big rig friendly" on the web page does not always make it so in reality. We always check them out on google earth and rv park reviews before we...

Four Simple Changes that Would Make a Big Difference!

Not to take away from your suggestion, but just an idea for you with your current rig - My husband uses an awning pole rod to open and close the microwave vent. It has a hook on it that he can use to push or pull the little tab that locks the vent.

Big Horn 3160 - Organizing the Pantry

My husband put supports in the center of the shelf - an approximately 1 by 6 size piece of shelving. That serves two purposes....keeps things in place more easily and also helps to support the weight of each shelf. Cans of soup or vegetables etc can get pretty heavy.

    Mail forwarding

I haven't had to do this, since we just had our mail held when we went away from our house before we started fulltiming. But just thinking about what I would have done in your situation, I don't think I would have tried to have our mail forwarded to a campground. Just seems like too many things...

Dryer Vent Install Through the Floor

I don't know anything about installing a vent in the floor, but just wanted to mention that our washer/dryer is vented in the side, and we had it painted to match the body paint. It looks very natural and we are glad that we made that decision.

    Normal noises?

Our landing gear has made the popping noise occasionally since we have had our rig. We did the "fix" about a year and a half ago but it still does it once in a while. We notice that it happens more often when there is a quick decrease in temperature, and if we put the landing gear directly on...

    Best washer dryer options

We have the Splendide 2100XC. It's the vented combo washer/dryer. We have had great luck with it and would choose it again if we were doing it over.

    Fulltime Domicile Newbie Question

We had mail sent to my sister for the first couple months we were fulltime. We would not have used her address long term even if we weren't changing states of residence. It can become just one more thing that the family member has to do. For example, our W-2s were sent to the NY PO box, and we...

    Problems with Face Book

If the language has been changed in the settings, try this to change it back to English. Go to the drop down menu of the last "tab" on the top right, the one that looks like an upside down triangle. "Settings" is the sixth option down. General settings is the first window that opens up and...

Slide Pulls Out Cabinet Door - Repair Advice Needed

We had a similar thing happen right after we got our rig (now we use velcro straps to keep the doors closed) and our hinges were left attached to the door but somewhat bent. You don't indicate that yours are bent, but just in case, an FYI that we had new ones sent to us from Heartland.
