Size of extension cord

I need to use an extension cord to get from the fifth wheel to the back of my pickup. I'm going from 50 amp down to a 3000 watt Honda generator. Would a 25 foot, 30 amp extension cord work okay? thanks everybody

Sure be just the right size. Make sure the adapter is wired correctly on both ends.

I use a 30/50 Amp dog bone adapter on the rare occasions I use my generators.

I have a 50 amp 25 foot extension cord I would love to get rid off. It weighs a ton though. But If I remember correctly I think I paid somewhere around $ 75 for it at Walmart a long time ago. Not sure if they still sell the 50 amp cords anymore. I know they sell 30 amp. Amazon has them for $80 with Prime shipping.

I've also thought about putting the generator in the truck bed. My concern was hooking an "extension cord" to the RV power cable. I know the cable is sized correctly for it's length, but not sure what effect if any tagging another 25 onto it would have. I've thought a more practical solution would be to wire a recessed receptacle in the front of the trailer.

3000W/120V=25A. So a 30 amp cord is fine.

Here's a link that illustrates what I was talking about earlier. The minimum Guage wire for 25 amps at 50' is 10, but add 25 feet and the minimum goes up to 8 Guage assuming a 3% voltage drop.
