Camp Ground near the Smokies

Planning a trip to the Smoky Mountains. Can anyone provide any info. on a good campground close to the Smokies. We are planning our trip for christmas. Any help would be appreciated.

There are many to choose from. Here is one we really like that is off from the hustle and bustle a little while still being just minutes from the action. Big Meadows Family Campground, Townsend TN http://www.bigmeadowcampground.com/

Our TN/KY rally was held there last year and it is a real nice place. The owners were very nice and helpful. It's close to Cade's Cv and a short drive into the Park and into Gatltinburg.

Spent a week at Big Meadows at one of their supersites, worth every penny. Like the others have stated, it is very friendly and clean. Also there is a store to buy groceries, and diesel very close to the campground. We are planning on going back this October because we liked it so much.

Many of them close for the winter. You will need to check the websites to make sure they are open. River plantation is a favorite of ours and Up the Creek also, but it is closed during winter I think.

River Plantation is open year round. Their sites are large and the people are friendly. We stay there three or four times a year. Ken
