    Replaced refrigerator drain tube

I've seen a number of posts related to problems with crumbling and/or broken refer drain tubes. Finally after cobbling together my old crumbled tubing more than once, I decided it was time. First, I removed the plastic adaptor from inside the refrigerator. I quickly realized the original...

    Backing up...

I'm not the greatest, but I've been at it a long time, so I've learned from experience. First of all, remember, whatever happens, it's the backers responsibility, so go slow, don't worry about holding up traffic. After all, it is a campground so others shouldn't be in a hurry. Don't be afraid...

Customer Service from Atwood Fantastic Fan

Re: Custmer Service from Atwoo Fantastic Fan When we owned our previous SOB, I had a similar experience with Fantastic Fan. I called to order a part and ended up with several no-charge parts because, as the gentleman explained, "we stand behind our product, and even though YOU broke the part...

RV people are the best kind of people.

A number of years ago, before I retired, driving time for vacations was a waste of valuable family time. I had just driven 16 straight hours to get to a state park campground at a SC beach, quickly setup our pop-up, grabbed a rod and headed for the surf to unwind. Soon, I landed a 24" sea...

new vinyl plank to replace carpet, now a slide clearance issue

I bought one of those clear plastic mats used under office chairs to prevent floor/carpet damage. I used an electric sabre saw to cut it to sizes somewhat wider than the marks left by the rollers on my carpetting. The advantage to this mat is the small nipples formed into it to prevent...

Bighorn - 120 volt hook up

Re: ATF: Bighorn - 120 volt hook up When this happened to me it turned out to be the electric water heater inadvertently left on when we left the campground.

Definitely check the plywood floors of the slides for delamination and water damage Many have experienced this issue including me. It can be an expensive repair.

My stupid trick for the year.

I've successfully used the spray paint made especially for plastic to refresh all the yellowing plastics on my BH. I think it might be a rust oleum product, designed to bond with most plastics. I painted the molding around the entry-door window, the stove vent, outdoor shower, outdoor...

    Having a good time...

John, I lived in Jackson a good share of my life. Now I live in Central Indiana and don't notice much difference in warts and stuff. It was -7 on my deck this morning, but at least, unlike you I (enjoyed) it from the comfort of my home. Be safe out there. John

    Looking for a new truck...

The smartest move Chrysler ever made was putting the Cummins in their Ram. Made far more sense than attempting to develop their own from scratch. I speak from experience as a retired Chrysler engineer who was involved in that decision as a process engineer in the transmission plant. I won't...

    Ford rules :)

As an old retired, worn out, Chrysler engineer I'm biased, of course, but I remain loyal to the brand I know best. It's hard to beat the Ram-Cummins combo with an automatic transmission. Happy New Year all. John

"Leaving Your Home Alone ! "

I always turn off the water, unplug the softener (so it doesn't cycle without water), set the gas water heater to "pilot", as well as unplugging all electronics. Depending on season set furnace to a warm enough setting to protect pipes from freezing. Arrange with a trusted neighbor to keep an...

    Baking food in the oven

Thanks for the responses. I bought 4 lightly glazed tiles today at Lowes. No unglazed we're available. I've been told the use of lead is no longer permitted.

    Baking food in the oven

Do the tile have to be unglazed? I was all set to buy some tiles for our oven until I read the above. I don't know where to buy unglazed tiles. Lowes sells glazed tile.

    Heartland sightings

Yesterday while driving into town (I live in Kokomo IN) I saw two new 5ers being towed south on U.S. 31 by commercial trucks. A couple lucky people will shortly take delivery of their shiney new ones. One was a Big Horn, the other a Greystone. Enjoy :)

    Possible roof problem

I'm confused...Didn't the original post say the roof was ballooned (not sagging) between the joists?... Wouldn't the weight of snow cause the opposite problem, a sagging between the joists?

    Tire Pressure

Unless I was towing my BH empty, I'd never concern myself with too little rubber touching the road, and even then I think it's heavy enough. Bottom line...I always inflate my 614's to 110lb....jmho

    Inexpensive easy modifications

I often read on the forums about some great modifications. These range from simple to those requiring time, talent and expense. I'd like to see more of those "Why didn't I think of that" mods. I'm sure there are hundreds out there. I'm particularly interested in the quick and easy ones. For...

    Jacking Up a 5th Wheel

Thanks for your thoughts, porthole. Looking at the pic of where you placed the bottle jack, it looks low even with a fully inflated tire. I think my jack might be taller than that. I might be in the market for a new jack. And about that cold weather and snow...Me too.

    Jacking Up a 5th Wheel

I've read with interest all the innovations some of you have come up with for changing tires. Last summer I built a ramp from 2 x 8's for changing tires. During my next trip I had a blowout and used my ramp to change the tire. It worked great. Now I'm considering a Mor/Ryde IS system and have...

Have you ever been sent to the scales by law enforcement?

With no intent to hi-jack the thread, does anyone know if one can go through a dot scale to get the trailer weighed? If so, what would be the result of being heavier than the trailer sticker weight?

    Shakey 5ver.

I would NOT recommend using 6 x 6's under the front jacks. I NEVER use anything thicker than a 2 x 6. I've seen a couple cases where higher blocks were used, disasterously. When backing the TV to hitch up, the trailer can be bumped off the taller blocks, dropping it on the bed rails.
